I can’t walk into a fast food restaurant bathroom anymore without seeing her legs, the way they stuck skinny beneath the door that day in old man pants, with white socks and black slippers. A little girl and her mother were in front of me and we all froze and I said “Heavens.”

Also–to those who donated or bid in #MiracleforMaverick, we are SO grateful… the bids raised $3800, and the donations raised over $5,000. Here is a thank-you note from Maverick’s mom, Rachel:
“We are honored, humbled and overwhelmed at the generosity of people. That artists and authors across North and South America would come together to fight for our little Maverick. Words cannot express our gratitude and thoughts to those who bought, contributed, and donated to Miracle for Maverick, and to Emily Wierenga – heart of gold – who put this on.
In just one short week the world learned the amazing story about our little fighter, the power of prayer, and his will to not give up. Never in my life have I met a little person who has been through so much- ripped, pulled, tugged, torn, and stretched inside-out.
It is my desire to set up a plaque for the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. To publicly recognize the world renown Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for their amazing heart warriors, particularly the ones on ECMO. Families of heart babes who would like their little warriors remembered for all they’ve been through, can donate a lump sum to have their babies names and birth dates engraved onto the plaque pegged outside the walls of the CICU. This intends to honor the world renown heart program set up by Dr David Ross, and Dr. Ivan Rebeyka, and for all the babes fighting for their lives.
It is a way to donate and say thank-you to the program, to have our warriors acknowledged and remembered, and stay connected as a heart family. Proceeds will also go towards Maverick’s Angel Heart Care Monitor, the Madden DeLuca Foundation and other medical expenses. This journey has been absolutely devastating – yet we are blessed. With God by our side carrying us through, and an abundance of love, messages, and support we cannot thank you enough.
In love, David, Rachel, Colten, Brody & Maverick.”
